Band 6 Occupational Therapist - Neuro-disability Hospital - Up to 50,000

Job Title: Occupational Therapist (Band 6)

Salary Range: £39,108 - £51,580 per annum (dependent on experience/banding)
Responsible to: Occupational Therapy Clinical Specialist
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Location: Southwest London

Summary of Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our client's Clinical Operations team. In this role, you will deliver therapeutic Occupational Therapy programs within a multidisciplinary team. The position offers rotational work across various specialized services, including:


  • Brain Injury Service (BIS)
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Service
  • Ventilation Service
  • Neuro-behavioural Services
  • Young Adults Service
  • Specialist Nursing Home Services


  • Our client is an independent hospital and medical charity that provides intensive rehabilitation for individuals with brain injuries, including those with Huntington's disease and prolonged disorders of consciousness. Their specialist services include a ventilator unit, a neuro-behavioural unit, and care for complex health needs, degenerative conditions, and palliative care.

Key Duties

  • Deliver specialist, patient-centred assessments and treatments for complex neurological conditions.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary working, including meetings, reviews, discharge planning, and reporting.
  • Maintain professionalism and ensure clear communication with staff, patients, and relatives.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively within a specialist multidisciplinary team.
  • Assess and prioritize the treatment of patients with complex needs.
  • Promote patient independence in daily living activities.
  • Contribute to 24-hour postural management programs, including splint assessments and provision.
  • Attend key meetings (e.g., CCG reviews, safeguarding, best interest meetings).
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA), including task delegation.
  • Conduct community visits and provide timely, comprehensive reports.
  • Complete required documentation, including outcome measures and participation in key meetings.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality communication with patients, relatives, and team members, including taking on key worker roles.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Diploma, degree, or master's in Occupational Therapy recognized by COT & HCPC.
  • Membership with BAOT/College of Occupational Therapists.
  • Strong interest in managing severe neuro-disability.
  • Proficient in evidence-based practice.
  • Solid knowledge of physical assessment in complex neuro presentations.
  • Understanding of long-term neurological conditions.

Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum of 18 months as a qualified OT, with at least 6 months in neuro-disability.
  • Ability to prescribe and adapt detailed treatment plans.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing a large caseload.

Desirable:

  • Interest in postural management and splinting.
