Position Summary

Registered Nurse – CTICU Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse will:
- Adhere to prestigious hospital's Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Provide respectful and culturally sensitive care, promoting mutual respect, shared decision-making, and informed consent.
- Utilize the nursing process to meet the age-specific needs of the patient in all aspects of care: biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety/environment, and discharge planning.
- Prioritize and address patient care and unit-based issues through appropriate decision-making.
- Administer blood and blood products following established policies.
- Collaborate and communicate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal care.
- Integrate patient rights and nursing ethics into work practice.
- Adhere to infection control standards to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections.
- Follow the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals to ensure quality and safety.
- Delegate tasks to ancillary staff in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act.
- Uphold the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics & Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice.
- Support, promote, and practice within the Prestigious Hospital Professional Nursing Practice Model.
- Contribute to sustaining and advancing the Magnet model.
- Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Complete required competencies and attend mandatory in-services.
- Attend staff meetings as required/requested.
- Utilize cost containment practices.
- Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities when necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Registered Nurse – CTICU Education & Experience Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current New York RN license/registration.
- BSN required.
- Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends to ensure effective patient care.
- Minimum one year of acute care nursing experience preferred (except for medical-surgical or step-down units).
- BLS certification (American Heart Association) required.
- ACLS certification (American Heart Association) required for all RNs, except NICU and OR nurses.
- PALS certification (American Heart Association) required for RNs in PACU, Pediatrics, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Surgery, and related units.
- NRP certification required for RNs in Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery, and NICU (within 6 months of hire).
- Oncology nurses must meet one of the following:
- Maintain current cancer-specific certification by an accredited certification program.
- Earn 36 cancer-related continuing education contact hours every 3 years (monitored by the department manager).
- Emergency Department RNs must complete de-escalation training within 1 year of hire.
- Successful completion of Department and Unit Orientation Program.

- Exposure to chemicals required to perform tasks (as listed in the hospital’s SDS database).
- Ability to move about freely at least 85% of the time.
- Must be able to remain stationary for prolonged periods.
- Frequently moves/transports objects up to 50 pounds and assists patients of all weights with appropriate support.
- Must work in an environment with continuous interruptions.
- Ability to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department, and hospital.
- Must adapt to a high-stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions.
- Ability to detect and respond to emergency sounds and signals at all times.
- Must constantly operate computer systems, equipment, and other devices.
- Ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for extended periods.
- Must understand and relate to theories behind multiple related concepts and manage multiple tasks throughout the day.
