We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Fertility Nurse to become a core member of their expert nursing team. This is an exciting opportunity to support life-changing treatment in a collaborative and innovative clinical environment.
Role Objective
As a Senior Fertility Nurse, you will contribute to the delivery of an effective and holistic nursing service. You will uphold the highest clinical standards in line with the clinic’s philosophy, policies, the NMC Code of Conduct, and HFEA regulations. A key part of the role includes performing high-quality transvaginal scanning during all phases of patient treatment, according to SOPs.

Senior Fertility Nurse Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent the clinic by promoting our ethos and excellent reputation.
- Adhere to HFEA code of conduct in all areas.
- Deliver high-quality care tailored to each couple’s or patient’s needs.
- Maintain patient trust, act as an advocate, and provide comprehensive support.
- Promote clear, effective communication with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure successful treatment outcomes.
- Work independently and adapt to changing tasks or roles.
- Be approachable and friendly, accepting delegated responsibility and supporting clinical operations.
- Escalate patient concerns appropriately to the senior team or MDT.
- Encourage use of the counselling service for all patients.
- Recognise and report safeguarding issues (e.g., FGM, domestic violence).
- Comply with the Data Protection Act and Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act.
- Book appointments using IDEAS software.
- Navigate and utilize IT platforms proficiently.
- Prepare consultation rooms and clinic coding sheets at the start of each day.
- Maintain real-time, accurate documentation in IDEAS.
- Chaperone and assist with clinical procedures (scans, examinations, hyCoSy, smears).
- Assist with theatre procedures (embryo transfers, egg collections, IUI).
- Support patient recovery post-theatre.
- Order clinical stock and maintain laundry and waste supplies.
- Dispose of clinical waste appropriately and maintain a safe, hygienic environment.
- Restock phlebotomy, scanning rooms, theatre, and recovery areas.
- Participate in departmental audits.
Senior Fertility Nurse Qualifications & Experience
- Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice.
- Comply with HFEA regulations.
- Maintain valid NMC registration.
- Stay current with professional development and revalidation.
- Promote collaborative working and equal opportunities.
- Attend supervision and training updates related to transvaginal ultrasound scanning (TV USS).
Education & Training
- Support and train junior nursing staff; act as a mentor when required.
- Attend relevant study days and conferences.
- Apply evidence-based nursing practices.
- Understand and follow fire safety and emergency protocols.
- Complete internal campus training modules.
- Perform phlebotomy, pregnancy testing, and communicate results.
- Assist with treatment data collection and patient outcome follow-ups.
- Conduct first treatment scans and liaise with TDL.
- Conduct treatment consultations upon training completion.
- Provide patients with treatment and medication information.
- Coordinate specific tasks or specialties as needed.
- Manage and assign treatment consents.
- Understand medication management and dispensing policies.
- Communicate effectively with medical and nursing teams across clinics.
- Provide weekend cover on a rostered basis.
- Support hub and satellite clinics as needed.
- Contribute to policy and standard development within the unit.
- Supervise clerical and junior team members.
- Ensure all policies are followed and incidents reported.
Ultrasound Scanning (dependent on training & competencies)
- Conduct baseline pelvic, early pregnancy, and treatment ultrasound scans.
- Follow agreed treatment plans for all scans.
- Support infection control and Health & Safety training and audits.
Personal Attributes

Leadership & Management
- Support Deputy and Head of Nursing as needed.
- Manage clinic operations in absence of senior leadership, adhering to SOPs.
- Liaise with Heads of Nursing across the network when necessary.
- Participate in appraisals and disciplinary processes.
- Advocate for the nursing team.
- Assist with HFEA inspections.
- Be willing to undergo leadership and management training.
- Maintain a professional, discreet, and approachable demeanor.
